Aeroplane1932mRecently I mentioned KLG’s major effort in publicity in the inter-war period. Here’s an example on the cover of The Aeroplane magazine recording Jim Mollison’s success on 18 August 1932 when he was the first pilot to fly an East-to-West solo trans-Atlantic flight – from Portmarnock in Ireland to Pennfield, New Brunswick, Canada. Many thanks to Keith Webb for passing me the original issue of the magazine.

The KLG artist, while making it clear what Mollison achieved has rather undersold the event with some friendly looking waves, rather than the Atlantic’s killers. The other notable thing, is that the cover of a weekly trade journal was for sale for advertising – still the case in some trade specific magazines today.
