Today’s Poster is from the Smithsonian collection, and is a startlingly modern look for a period poster promoting the Farman aircraft company’s air lines, later the Société Générale des Transports Aérienes (SGTA). The contrast of the sleek gulls to the boxy Farman airliner, and the unusual yellow background and the remarkably modern logo make a very different poster for the usual 1920s fare.
The airliner looks very neat here, but the reality of the Farman F.170 Jabiru was a lot more porcine. The poster, circa 1926, is by Albert Solon (1897-1973), responsible for a number of airline posters, several found here.
