Zepps! Gorilla!

I promised something more cheerful today, so here we are. Today’s pulp cover is the unarguably excellent ‘Zeppelin Stories’, this issue featuring ‘The Gorilla of the Gas Bags’ by Gil Brewer.

With a cover like that, you know it’s going to be all good stuff inside, right?

A bit of background from the website ‘The Pulp Magazines Project’ where I took the cover from“Frank Armer, who became the leading publisher of girlie pulps by the end of the decade. He is probably best known today as the editor of the notorious Culture/Trojan line of Spicy pulps, or as publisher of the notoriously short-lived Zeppelin Stories. Armer’s chief contribution to magazine culture, however, was as a pioneer in the popular movie, art photo, and girlie magazines of the period between the world wars.” I’m presuming it was the success of the girlie magazines that limited the otherwise vast potential of Zeppelin Stories. 20c well spent.
