Which airport would be worth highlighting in terms of design and art? This artwork today is a painting of a Continental Airlines Douglas DC-9 in front of the iconic ‘Theme Building’ at Los Angeles International (LAX) airport in California.
The sixties aesthetic of the building is today countered by the true awfulness of LAX airport, and it’s telling that apparently there is no restaurant in the building, the last one having closed in 2013, due (despite the implication of the painting) it not being on the secure side of the airport, so passengers are reluctant to linger before facing the notorious security queues (line-ups) to get to their flight.
Great painting, good advertising, terrific, iconic building, awful airport. So what’s your (artistic, design) pick?

A Year of Aviation Illustration & Art 
Another iconic building from the same era is the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport in New York, by Aero Saarinen, built in 1962. It also aspires to represent the future and technology, but with evocative, fluid forms.
Great call, I wouldn’t have picked it, but it’s bang on Chris. (I tend to default to 1930s airports…)
