A Soviet poster at the end of Women’s History Month today.
A slightly rough translation of this 1931 poster’s strapline would be “Proletarian women! Master aviation equipment, go to school and technical colleges for advancing civil aviation!” The Communist revolution needed to enable such skills and enhance the capability of the population, but here, as in many other ways, the propaganda offered far beyond any real achievements made. Nevertheless, Soviet women did forge ahead and took a greater air combat and other roles in the Great Patriotic War in World War Two than any other nation’s women were allowed to, as shown earlier in the post featuring Anna Timofeyeva-Yegorova.
The graphic aesthetic of this fits well within the run of such Soviet posters, but the strong green and red colour scheme lifts it again.
